GED Georgia: Taking the Georgia GED Exam

Eligibility

In order to take the GED exam you:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older
  • Must be a resident of the Georgia
  • Must have withdrawn from high school at least six months ago
  • Not a high school graduate

Exam Format

The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:

  • Writing Skills - Part I
  • Writing Skills - Part II
    • Comprised of a 45-minute essay composition
  • Mathematics (Part I allows use of a calculator; Part II does not)
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Scoring

  • Language Arts - Writing (includes 45 minute essay question)
  • Language Arts - Reading
  • Mathematics (calculator may be used only on Part 1)
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Registration and Fees

Registration must be completed at any official Georgia testing center. There is a fee of $55 to take the exam (or $11 per section). Bring sufficient ID with your social security number and proof of residence.
