Kids Math Factions
Students who searched for kids math factions found the following articles and tips relevant and useful. How Can I Teach Kids Math Fractions?
Kids learn fractions best when they see visuals. One of the most common fraction visuals is a circle. You can teach kids halves, quarters and eighths by segmenting circles. Give your students blank circles and ask them to divide them in half. Then ask them to color in one half of the circle. Students should see that the circle has two halves and only one half is colored in. Show your students that their circle represents the fraction 1/2. Repeat this process with quarters and eighths.
When you're teaching fractions, make sure to emphasize that shapes need to be divided into equal size pieces and that uneven pieces don't make fractions. Students will remember the need for equal size pieces if you demonstrate it. A fun way to demonstrate fractions is to bring in two pizzas or cakes. Cut one of the pizzas into uneven pieces and ask if it would be fair to hand those pieces out. Your kids should agree it's not fair and tell you how to cut the other pizza fairly. After a couple of days of these types of activities, your students should have a strong understanding of basic fractions.
